First day back at my desk today after a long Christmas break. Cracking on with the goodship business course and looking at the frosty trees outside my window...its soo cold ❄️💙 I have a hot water bottle, a winter hat on, and a little fan heater to heat my feet!

I don't have any new years resolutions as such, I read recently that as nature is still in winter and resting...we can too! We put so much pressure on ourselves to start afresh on January 1st and suddenly be productive, new, re-vitalised etc which is very admirable but I don't know about you, I still feel like hibernating, getting cosy and slowing down. Aligning more with how nature starts again and is reborn in the spring.

What do you think? I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and new years 💛

@foltaleweek prompt was BOOK today. I liked the idea that the girl made a cave from a book. It's a bit of a metaphor for how you might find refuge in a story. You can cocoon yourself in familiar or even unfamiliar new stories.

*Suddenly, her worries are smaller, and she feels safe. Something I can definitely identify with in my own favourite books.

* I had so much fun with this one and really wanted to play with making it look like ink.

*Just like the fold up prints I made as a child, making a shape on one side and then folding the paper, pressing it together and seeing a mirror image when you open it back up.

It's such a transitional stage of my life at the moment. After 8 years of being a stay at home mum, I'm doing something for myself and trying to pursue my dream of being a picture book artist.
* It feels terrifying and glorious all at once. It's a time of huge change and I'm not used to having the time now all my children are at school to do anything for myself...I struggle with feeling selfish, am I making anything good? Am I wasting time? What's my style?
* I've been so focused on my website and doing bits of the amazing good ship business course that I'm getting in my head and not playing and enjoying the process enough.
* So this morning, I shoved my husbands hoodey on, got out some black ink, picked a twig from the garden, and started drawing! It has been a really enjoyable morning. I'm in a tough phase at the moment, finding my style and figuring our what it is I want to say...I hope I'll look back on this time as a time of growth and hopefully be really proud that I didnt give up on my dreams too. 💕...if you made it this far through my ramblings... well done!🙈

Some of you might know me as Olivia Green, but from now on I’ll be illustrating as Jenny Fernley.

When I first started posting on here, I used Olivia Green as an alias to help me build confidence to share my work online...it felt really scary at the time to post anything!

I referenced the colours in the Millais painting and used the bright orange and Turquoise we are seeing everywhere for her album release...

It's been so lovely to have some kid free time to play in my sketchbooks this week. I'm currently developing my picture book portfolio, and I was so excited to try out my lovely Christmas presents. I got some @carandache gouache paints and some wonderful pencils, and it's been joyful experimenting with these this week 🙂
